Vincent Medina…

…is a Bartolini Emerging Artist and an American jazz, progressive rock, progressive metal, fusion, country/folk bassist, multi-instrumentalist & composer who is best known as a 6-string, fretted/fretless bass player. In addition to sitting in the pocket, Vincent has created a style uniquely his own by absorbing any/all music of interest and also adopting the cultural aspect of his city/environment here in Los Angeles. Also, an endless love for learning, and continuum of appreciation and fascination for LA’s multi-cultural offerings, plus Flamenco and Classical guitar.

Vincent’s unconditional love for music in all its forms, studied jazz theory and jazz improvisation with big band leader and composer, Ladd McIntosh; classical, music theory, performance, composition, upright bass + electric bass at CSUN, and private study with former LA Philharmonic contrabass master Arni Egilsson.

Vincent's main instruments include electric + acoustic fretless basses + fretted basses in 7, 6, and 4 strings. Importantly, humbles himself to standing on the shoulders of the giants: Electric bass — Percy Jones, Jaco Pastorius, Jeff Berlin, and Marcus Miller; Upright bass — NHO Pedersen, Charles Mingus, Buster Williams, Arild Andersen, Charlie Haden, and Ron Carter. As well as keen love and inspiration from the maestro’s: Allan Holdsworth, Jeff Beck, Mikael Åkerfeldt, Herbie Hancock, Chick Corea, Josef Zawinul, Tony Williams, Max Roach, Bill Bruford, Wayne Shorter, and Miles Davis. In addition, Vincent may add supporting parts for guitar and keyboards.

All but the metal samples below is unrehearsed, free improvisation. The metal samples were composed scores, and well-rehearsed. With that in mind, the following footnote is typically added to his audio/video “throw down” sessions:

“Note: this is "free improvisation"... music executed on the spot, without preparation of any sort. Most like a finished composition where we made a few mistakes, rather than making it up from scratch. Always hesitant to post... but, please do use headphones. 🎧🤤 ”
